The holidays are coming up. Have you started thinking about Christmas presents yet? If you don’t want to buy the Fall into Health Bundle for your loved ones (or use one of the discounts that come with it to get them something!), have you thought about making something? You could make them something like homemade lotion or any number of the products for DIY Organic Beauty Recipes. Doesn’t that chocolate body butter look like a great gift? How about homemade soap, dried herbs, or extracts?
But how to package? You could throw you wonderful homemade products into an old plastic container like I do. But presentation is such an important part of the gift. You want the recipient to ooh and ahh over it, don’t you? Wouldn’t it be nice if your soap looked something like this:
Beautify Your DIY
Luckily, April Anderton of Healing for Real has a solution to this problem. In her beautifully photographed book, Beautify Your DIY, she gives ideas for simple projects that bring your homemade gifts from “meh” to “wow!”
The first 20 pages of Beautify Your DIY are made up of gorgeous photographs and simple descriptions of ways to package your DIY products. I enjoy scrolling through these pages and just staring at them. That and really wanting to make such beautiful gifts for the holidays!
The descriptions over the images make one feel like it is an easily accomplished project – always nice in the DIY world. Take this simple, but charming bottle of infused oil. There is nothing exceptional about the vessel, yet it looks much nicer than a simple mason jar.
In addition to filling her book with gorgeous photos, April also makes it easy on the less artistically inclined of us. Following the beautiful images, April once again writes the description of each item in plain text. Following each paragraph is a list of resources: links to instructions for the product and where to get the packaging.
And if that wasn’t helpful enough, Beautify Your DIY ends with 7 pages of labels that can be printed out for your now beautiful DIY projects. No longer in plain containers, your homemade fragrances now look like this:
