Sorry I have been missing lately. To be honest, I have had the worst writer’s block, triggered by getting quite sick. I used my natural immune support essential oils, plus eucalyptus essential oils and a lot of tea and rest, to recover quickly. But my first illness in Europe still kicked me on my butt (why do the winters need to be cold AND wet?) and it took 2 weeks for me to fully recover.
But today I am excited to share a recipe for Homemade Glühwein – one of my favorite holiday recipes!
Homemade Glühwein
Christmas here in Germany means two things: Christmas markets and Glühwein.
On a cold winter’s night, a warm mug of Glühwein (also called mulled wine) is the perfect companion. It conjures up cozy holiday feelings and will certainly instill the Christmas spirit in you!
In Germany, Glühwein is found everywhere you turn. But outside of a German restaurant, I have never actually seen Glühwein in America. When you want your own cup of this comforting winter drink (or don’t want to pay more than $2 for a mug), homemade Glühwein is actually very easy to make!
My simple Glühwein recipe is naturally sweetened and will make your kitchen smell lovely as it cooks. By using whole spices instead of seasoning packets, you know exactly what is going into your delicious homemade Glühwein.
What I particularly love about this Glühwein recipe is that it is GAPS friendly! Dry wines, in moderation, are allowed on the Full GAPS diet. In addition, this homemade Glühwein calls for honey – the GAPS-friendly sweetener!
Enjoy! It goes particularly well with gingerbread cookies.
